The Wii gets Wii-jected!!!

With the Nintendo Wii currently winning the console wars based on sales, have you recently wondered why the Wii Systems are becoming more widely available and the price on eBay is coming down dramatically yet there’s a flood of systems on there still? Is it the increase of production to keep up with the demand or a shift of shipment to the United States to sell the systems before the Wii is an ended fad?
More and more gamers are confessing to SOGamer that after playing the Nintendo Wii for 3-4 months they have either traded in their Wii system to Gamestop or they sold it on eBay. Another interesting fact was that 13 out of the 16 gamers that told us they sold their Wii used the money they got from the sale to buy a 360 or PS3 within the same week, while the others used the money for games to play on their Playstation 2…
What would make people do such a thing after the months of hunting and after our overview on the system in the episodic console wars article we had? Are these people going crazy or are they just seeing a trend change coming up? Why don’t you find out after the break!
“It just got boring after a while” is what 29 year old Roy had to say after leaving a Gamestop store and trading in his Wii for a PS3. “After a few family get togethers and after a few parties it just got old.” Roy was a Nintendo fan since the regular NES but after downloading his old favorites and playing them using the Wiimote and/or classic controller he had this to say “It’s just not the same. Back then, it was great, but this….. It’s just not the same.”
Another person claimed that the Wii wasn’t really that much fun. She claims that it seemed like fun when her friends would come over to play but she was bored with it when no one else was around. “I’d rather own a 360 because if no one’s around I could just hop online and play or chat with people on there.”
Some of the other gamers said that “there just wasn’t enough games” or “the graphics just looked dated to me” while others said “I’ll get another one some day but right now there’s really not a lot to do with it”.
With so many gamers anxious to unload the machines, it really does make you wonder how long the Nintendo Wii will be the number one system. Will Wii Sports continue to be the only good game on the Nintendo Wii or are more games coming? Whether there were new ones coming or not, these gamers decided to cut their losses like bad stocks and start over.
This article really does raise a brow for us here at SOGamer because the sale numbers aren’t indicating the boredom expressed by the gamers mentioned in this article. But after many analysts were calling the Wii a gimmick earlier this year and after people starting to reject the Nintendo Wii and move on, the question is, how long until the rest of the world catches on?
Only time will tell….
